About Us

Rooted in Newburgh Since 1958

What started in a two-car garage with a gravel floor has grown into the Tri-State's most complete landscape company and garden center. The name is the same. The pride is the same. The energy is brand new.

Where It All Started

From a gravel-floor garage to Epworth Road

In 1958, Jim McCarty Sr. started Colonial Classics out of a two-car garage on Green River Road. The floor was gravel. The ambition was anything but small. From those humble beginnings, he built a landscaping business rooted in honest work and genuine care for the neighborhoods he served.

Over the decades, the company grew, expanding into landscape contracting, holiday decorations, and eventually a full retail garden center. In 2007, Colonial Classics moved to its current home at 3633 Epworth Road, adding greenhouses, a nursery, and a destination garden center that gave the community a reason to visit, not just hire.

The addition of Colorscaping Associates brought 3D landscape rendering and design capabilities. A partnership with Thursday Pools made Colonial one of the few local companies that could design, install, and maintain fiberglass pools. What had once been a small landscaping outfit was becoming something rare: a true one-stop shop for outdoor living.

2007

The Move to Epworth Road

2010s

Expanding the Vision

With the addition of Colorscaping Associates and a partnership as a Thursday Pools dealer, Colonial Classics added 3D landscape design, fiberglass pool installation, and an even broader scope of services under one roof.

2024

New Ownership, Same Roots

Same pride. New energy.

In 2024, Andrew and Jesse Diekhoff acquired Colonial Classics with the backing of eFund 1, a group of local investors who saw what we see: a legacy worth preserving and a future worth building. GrassKickers was folded into the operation, expanding our lawn care and maintenance capabilities.

Andrew serves as president of the board of directors for Keep Evansville Beautiful, bringing a deep personal commitment to community stewardship. He brings the same values to Colonial: care for the land, pride in craftsmanship, and a genuine desire to make outdoor spaces that make people happy.

Jesse is shaping the retail experience at Colonial Classics, making the garden center a destination worth visiting, not just a place to pick up a bag of mulch. From curating the seasonal displays to expanding the houseplant and home décor collections, Jesse brings an eye for detail and a passion for making every visit memorable.

Together, they're honoring 65+ years of history while pushing creative and service capabilities forward. The name is the same. The pride is the same. The energy is brand new.

What We Believe

Pride without pretension

We don't do things the easiest way. We do them the right way. That's been true since 1958, and it'll be true for the next 65 years.

Every Discipline Under One Roof

Design, build, plant, light, irrigate, and maintain, all under one roof. One team that owns the result from start to finish. No handoffs and no finger-pointing.

Community First

We live here. We raise our kids here. We serve on local boards and sponsor local causes. Colonial Classics isn't a franchise. It's a Newburgh institution built by the people who call this place home.

Craft Over Shortcuts

We start every project with a 3D rendering because details matter. We source quality plants because they last. We show up after the project is done because maintenance is part of the promise.
